Tactics of Poaching

July 20, 2011 - Oktober 25, 2011, Salzburger Kunstverein

Everyday life invents itself by poaching in countless ways on the property of others. Michel de Certeau * The group exhibition of artists presents the results of Künstlersymposiums ORTung Salzburg in Strobl in 2010. This was the ORTung residency program's eighth year in Strobl. Seven international artists were nominated by a jury for the two-week program run by the Salzburg council. As in previous years, in 2010 a loose thematic framework was set, within which the artists would explore Strobl and the surrounding region for inspiration. "Tactics of Poaching," the topic for 2010, is not only a reference to the 18th and 19th centuries' romanticisation and glorification of the poacher as folk hero in rural areas. The theme would instead pursue the question of current artistic practices that deal with the everyday and develop forms of action. If one follows the assumption that our lives are governed by regulated procedures, the room for individual action would seem to diminish. Crises and incidents in recent years in particular have shown dramatically what can happen when regulatory systems and the means by which they run communities, fail. An exhibition catalogue has been published. Artists: Erik Hable, Irina Korina, Marianne Long, Joanna Rajkowska, Frederick Ruecker, Sofie Thorsen, Ina Weber Jury: Maren Richter, Hemma Schmutz, Astrid Wege * Michel de Certeau, The Practice of Everyday Life, University of California Press. 1984.
